Automation for growing manufacturers

The machine needs to run again

Has a machine been moved to a new site, taken out of production or been sitting in storage and now needs to run again? We can assist with getting it up and running, identify what is missing or needs attention, and work through the controls, electrical and mechanical issues required to get it running.

We can start with an assessment and recommissioning work before you commit to the full job, so you know what the machine needs to get back into production.

Tell us what it is and where it has been. We will come back with an approach and a price.

Typical reasons

  • The line was moved to a new site and never fully restarted.
  • Equipment has come out of storage after a year or more and nobody is sure what state it is in.
  • A product line ended, the cell was shut down, and now there is a reason to run it again.
  • Equipment was bought at auction or from another plant and needs commissioning.
  • Volume has picked up and a cell that was idled needs to run again.

What we do

Look at it

Establish what is actually there. What is missing, what has been removed for use elsewhere, what has degraded, and whether the programs and backups still exist.

Get it running

Power up in a controlled sequence, fault-find whatever does not come back, and reprogram where the product or the layout has changed since it last ran.

Prove it and hand it over

Run it on real product, hand over what changed, and leave you with the backups and documentation for the machine as it now runs.

Common issues

  • No program backup. The most common issue with relocated or idle equipment, and the one that most affects the scope of recommissioning.
  • Pre-existing faults. Storage conditions can cause faults that are best found before installation. On a recent project, a controller fault was found in workshop pre-install checks, before site work began.
  • Lost robot positions. On industrial robots, depleted backup batteries cause the robot to lose its axis positions, and it must be remastered before it can operate safely.
  • Safety configuration set for the previous layout. A new layout requires robot safety zones to be reconfigured and revalidated, and may require changes to guarding.

Controls and robots we support

Equipment that has been idle usually arrives without the people who built it, so brand familiarity matters more here than on new work.

Tell us about the equipment

Send us the make, model and how long it has been down. We will come back with an approach and a price.
